First ever calf of 2 poaching survivors celebrates 1st birthday!
What a difference a year makes!
12 months ago Saving the Survivors celebrated a conservation milestone, little “Daniel” was born! The one-year-old Southern White Rhino was the first ever calf with both parents being survivors of poaching!
His mother “Lucky” escaped a poaching attempt with a bullet wound and we rescued his father “Seha” after he was horrifically butchered and left for dead by poachers, who brutally hacked away his face and stole his horns. You can read more about Seha’s horrific story on our survivors page.
Daniel is the finest example of exactly what we are trying to achieve. It is one thing to save one animal, but if that animal goes on to reproduce, that is real conservation!
News like this really makes the emotionally scaring work our Saving The Survivors vets do worthwhile.
Happy birthday Daniel!
We would like to thank Thaba Manzi Auctioneering Services for their support in caring for Seha and Daniel.
Please consider supporting our work so that we can help more poaching survivors!
