A Mother’s Strength
Treating a Black Rhino Cow and Protecting the Future
In the heart of the African wilderness, our team at Saving the Survivors was recently called to help a remarkable Black rhino cow and her calf—an encounter that reminded us why we do what we do.
This brave mother had suffered a serious injury: her front horn had broken off, likely during a confrontation with a territorial bull. Despite the trauma, she continued to care for her calf, a symbol of resilience and maternal strength. Thanks to swift action and expert veterinary care, we were able to treat her injury and give her the best possible chance to continue thriving in the wild.
While attending to her, our team also discovered that her satellite foot collar was down to just 2% battery—putting our ability to track and protect her at risk. We successfully replaced the collar, ensuring that we can continue to monitor her movements and safeguard her from poaching threats.

Looking Ahead: We Need Your Help
As we celebrate this successful intervention, we’re already preparing for our next life-saving mission—and we need your support.
At the end of June, we aim to collar 5 endangered Black rhinos on a 20,000-hectare reserve in Limpopo, South Africa. This breathtaking property is home to both Black and White rhino, and supports a variety of wildlife—though it sees little tourism, as most visitors head to Cape Town or Kruger. The area’s sandstone ridges make it as beautiful as it is ecologically vital.
To carry out this crucial mission, we must raise $5,000. Your donation will directly support the collaring operation, helping us protect these magnificent animals through ongoing monitoring and research.
🌿 And here’s something truly special: If you or your organisation provides a major sponsorship, we would love to invite you to join the mission on the ground—an unforgettable opportunity to witness conservation in action.
