A Story of Hope: A Rhino’s Remarkable Recovery
As World Rhino Day approaches, we’re reminded of the incredible resilience of these magnificent creatures—and the power of hope.
After the heartbreaking loss of little orphan Kwayera earlier this week, we want to share a heartwarming success story that highlights why our work matters so much.
In June 2022, our team was called to treat an adult white rhino bull who had sustained severe fractures to his lower humerus and ulna. Treating injuries of this nature in rhinos is extraordinarily challenging, but we were able to capture high-quality X-rays of his ulna to guide our care. After evaluating the damage, we confined him to a small area to limit movement and administered pain relief for 3 to 4 weeks, giving his injuries the best chance to heal.
Two years later, we returned to assess his progress, and the results left us overjoyed. His ulna has healed beautifully, and his overall mobility has significantly improved. While his humerus may not be fully healed, his recovery is nothing short of extraordinary.
Thanks to your steadfast support and generosity, this rhino bull now has a second chance to thrive in the wild, contributing to the survival of his critically endangered species.
Every rhino matters, and together, we are making a real difference in the fight to protect these gentle giants.
Thank you for standing with us. Let’s continue to work toward a future where every rhino has a chance to live, roam, and inspire hope.
