In the heart of a well-funded reserve, a recent project unfolded, capturing the indomitable spirit of a Black Rhino cow facing an unexpected challenge. Our team, fuelled by your unwavering support, embarked on a mission to treat this resilient creature, and the journey was nothing short of extraordinary.
The Encounter: High above the African landscape, a helicopter gracefully approached the majestic Rhino, dart in hand. The goal was clear – provide essential care to a Black Rhino cow with a cracked front horn, likely a battle scar from an encounter with another Rhino. The tranquillising dart gently found its mark, and as the Rhino succumbed to a peaceful slumber, our dedicated team prepared for a life-changing intervention.
The Treatment: The cracked horn, a testament to the challenges faced in the wild, was carefully tended to by our skilled veterinarians. With precision and care, the wound was cleaned, treated, and healed. But our efforts didn’t stop there. In a groundbreaking move, we fitted the resilient Rhino with a state-of-the-art AI ankle tracker, a crucial tool in monitoring her well-being and ensuring her safety in the future.
A Wake-Up Like No Other: As the effects of the tranquilliser wore off, the Black Rhino cow awoke in true Black Rhino style – fierce, determined, and ready for whatever the wild had in store. The treatment was a success, and she stood tall, a symbol of resilience and the triumph of conservation efforts.
Next Stop: Insimbi Reserve: But our journey doesn’t end here. Next month, we’re setting our sights on the Insimbi Reserve, where your support will be crucial once again. Collaborating with the esteemed wildlife charity Wild at Life, we’re deploying AI collars funded jointly by your generous donations and our partnership. These collars will play a pivotal role in safeguarding Rhinos, reinforcing our commitment to their protection.
