Gunshot-Wounded White Rhino
At Saving The Survivors, our mission is to step in when wildlife needs us most. Recently, we were called to assist a White Rhino cow that had survived a gunshot wound to the head. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our team, we were able to assess her condition and take the necessary steps to ensure her ongoing recovery.
After immobilising the Rhino, we conducted a thorough examination of her wound. Thankfully, she showed no major symptoms or clinical signs of distress, meaning that immediate invasive treatment was not required. Instead, we focused on cleaning the wound and fitting her with a tracking collar, allowing us and her caretakers to closely monitor her condition in the coming weeks.
To aid in identification from both the air and ground, we also marked her with a large orange X on her rear. This ensures that she can be easily recognised and observed as she continues her recovery in the wild.
This intervention is yet another example of how STS supports private Rhino custodians who are working tirelessly to protect Africa’s Rhinos. These incredible animals face relentless threats from poaching, and every effort to safeguard them is crucial to their survival.
