Happy Birthday Daniel!

Celebrating Daniel’s 5th Birthday: A Story of Resilience and Friendship

At Saving The Survivors, every Rhino’s journey is a testament to resilience, hope, and the incredible bonds formed along the way. Today, we are thrilled to celebrate the 5th birthday of Daniel, a remarkable young Rhino who embodies the spirit of survival and kindness.

Daniel’s Early Years

Daniel’s story begins with his parents, both of whom are incredible survivors of poaching. His father, Seha, was attacked by poachers in 2016 and left for dead. Despite the severe injuries and calls for his euthanasia, Seha’s impressive will to live inspired us to fight for his recovery. Against all odds, Seha healed and in 2019, he became a father to Daniel, alongside a brave mother who also survived a poaching attack.

Daniel, born into this legacy of survival, has grown into a gentle and kind-hearted Rhino, much like his parents. His presence on the reserve brings hope and joy to everyone who encounters him.

The Arrival of Rain

In October 2023, the Food For Rhinos team took in an orphaned Rhino heifer named Rain. Rain had suffered brutal stab wounds while trying to protect her mother from poachers. Tragically, her mother did not survive, and Rain was left in desperate need of intensive care. Due to the trauma, Rain refused human comfort and wouldn’t drink from a bottle, though she had no issues taking her milk from a trough.

A Special Bond

By December, Rain’s wounds had healed, and we decided to introduce her to Daniel. From their first meeting, Daniel’s gentle and comforting nature shone through. He offered Rain the companionship and reassurance she needed, and their bond quickly became a heartwarming sight. Despite the trauma she endured, Rain found solace in Daniel’s presence, and they have been inseparable ever since.

New Friendships

Recently, we have introduced two more young bulls, Julz and Augusto, to their group. While Daniel has welcomed them warmly, his bond with Rain remains unique. They often huddle together, finding comfort in each other’s company.

Celebrating a Milestone

As we celebrate Daniel’s 5th birthday, we reflect on his incredible journey and the special friendships he has formed. Daniel’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of these magnificent creatures and the impact of the care and support they receive.
