Hope: A True Survivor and Guardian of the Wild
At STS, we believe in stories of strength, resilience, and the power of community. Today, we are proud to share an uplifting chapter from the Insimbi Reserve—one that reminds us all why we do what we do.
We’ve just received a series of stunning new images of Hope, our anti-poaching dog, alongside the dedicated team she works with at Insimbi. It’s no exaggeration to say that Hope is looking better and stronger than ever. Her bright eyes, steady posture, and alert focus speak volumes about her spirit and the role she plays in protecting Africa’s most threatened wildlife.
During her time at the reserve, Hope has faced extraordinary challenges—including surviving not one, but two venomous Puff Adder bites whilst on patrol. Each incident was life-threatening, and each time, Hope pulled through with the help of her handler, swift veterinary care, and the support of a community who refused to give up on her.
But Hope’s impact goes far beyond her survival. She has become a visible deterrent to potential poachers, offering vital support to the reserve’s security efforts. Her presence alone has been enough to change the behaviour of those who might do harm. She is also a beloved ambassador for wildlife conservation—capturing the admiration of visitors and inspiring awareness in the surrounding communities.
Hope’s success, and indeed her very existence in this role, is the result of your support.
From the beginning, it was your donations that funded Hope’s purchase, her intensive training, and that of her handler. It’s you who made it possible for us to provide her with specialised equipment, comfortable housing, and the veterinary care that saved her life—twice.
Every success she achieves is shared with you, the passionate supporters who believe in our mission and make our work possible.
Hope is more than just an anti-poaching dog—she is a symbol of what we can accomplish together when we commit to protecting the world’s most vulnerable animals.
If you’d like to continue supporting Hope and the work of Saving the Survivors, please consider making a donation today. Your contribution helps ensure that heroes like Hope can keep standing guard over the wild places we all treasure.
Thank you for standing with us—and with Hope.
