The Roar of Success
Lions Return to Mozambique’s Zinave National Park
We are delighted to share a groundbreaking milestone in wildlife conservation—lions have made their triumphant return to Mozambique’s Zinave National Park! Once known as the “silent park,” Zinave is now alive with the roar of apex predators, signalling a remarkable restoration of the natural balance in this stunning wilderness.
At Saving the Survivors, we are honoured to have been part of Zinave’s early rewilding efforts. In 2018, thanks to the incredible support of our community, we translocated 72 buffalo to the park, laying the foundation for the reintroduction of wildlife. Then, in 2020, we joined forces for a historic hyena translocation, bringing back predators to help restore Zinave’s natural cycles.
These pivotal efforts have culminated in this extraordinary moment: lions reclaiming their territory and completing the ecosystem’s revitalisation. This success is a testament to the collective hard work of conservationists and our long-standing partners at Peace Parks Foundation.
None of this would have been possible without YOU—our supporters and donors. Your contributions played a vital role in making Zinave’s transformation a reality. Today, Zinave stands as a beacon of hope for conservation and a thriving destination for ecotourism.
Thank you for standing with us on this journey. Together, we are proving that wildlife conservation is not only possible but powerful. Here’s to many more victories for wildlife and wild places!
