The STS team tend to a pregnant Southern White Rhino poaching victim
How long are Southern White Rhinos pregnant?
The gestation period for Southern White Rhinos is approximately 16-18 months. Although this seems a long period of time, is it not as long as Elephants who are pregnant for nearly two years!
Southern White Rhino mothers give birth to a single calf every 2-3 years, reaching sexually maturity at around 6 years old. The long pregnancy periods and gaps between each calf born slows the potential population growth of the species.
